4. I'm thinking about buying a puppy. What is The Chin Pen's guarantee my new baby will be healthy?

The Chin Pen only breeds from carefully selected Mommy's and Daddy's to help insure healthy pups. We strongly urge you to bring your new baby to the doctor's within 48 hours of receiving him/her for a complete examination so you can rest easy knowing your new baby is healthy. If it is determined by a licensed veterinarian that your new puppy has a life-threatening defect that was not found by our own veterinarian, have the doctor put in writing what he diagnosed and contact me as soon as possible.

5. How old does my new puppy have to be before you will let us take him/her home?

TenshiChin at The Chin Pen absolutely, positively will not, nor ever has let a new baby leave its Mommy until it reaches the age of 10 weeks old. If the baby you choose to let adopt you is very small or immature compared to its litter mates, it may take longer before it can be separated from its mother. We understand you wanting to take your new puppy home right away but the health and well being of our babies is paramount. Allowing the baby that extra time needed with its Mommy for development will also give you peace of mind that your baby will be ready for adjusting to its new home with you.

Please keep in mind that Japanese Chin are a fragile toy breed. They want and need to be loved as well as be properly cared for. They can be lively and quite entertaining and need you to make sure they don't hurt themselves by some of their crazy antics. A Japanese Chin will make a wonderful addition to your family and with proper care and training will insure you both, many years of happiness.

7. What payment method do you require?

The Chin Pen requires a non-refundable deposit to hold your puppy. Payment can be made by cash, check, money order or by using a Visa, Master Card or Discover card through a Pay Pal account. 8. What can I expect when I bring my new Japanese Chin puppy home and what do I need to have?

First and foremost, you are bringing home a new baby, a very tiny baby. It is important that you slowly introduce it to other pets or to small children to insure it's safety. A small child could unintentionally hurt the baby if allowed to handle it unsupervised. You should chin proof your home as you would for any baby before it's arrival. Do not have tiny objects lying around that it may choke on. Provide him or her with a safe and comfortable place to nap. Have fresh water and a good quality food ready. (See item #10 below) Have plenty of puppy toys available and don't forget the Pee Pee pads.

We strongly urge you to bring your new baby for a wellness check up within 48 hours or soon thereafter. Refer back to #4 above.

10. What type of food is recommended to feed our new puppy?

It is not recommended that you change your new puppies diet from what it was receiving while at The Chin Pen until it is a little older. At that time, we recommend that you slowly introduce the new food by mixing it with the old to insure that it doesn't upset their stomach. Japanese Chin do best with a dry food that is made specifically for tiny toy breeds. A high quality food such as Science Diet, Avoderm, Royal Canine, to mention a few is recommended. Although tempting, you should not feed your pet table foods.

11. Will our new puppy be housebroken when we receive him/her?

Your puppy has been introduced to the outside frequently but also has access to Wee Wee pads indoors. Let's not forget they are only babies! They are easily trained with continuous monitoring of their habits and lots of love. Never scold your Chin for having an accident.  Wee Wee pads are available at pet stores and most grocery and department stores. They can also be purchased in quantity, online at Dr. Fosters and Smith. com  or call them toll free at 1- 800-381-7179
